About the Job

Primary Function:

Directs and manages overall daily operations with the primary concern for a comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, community relations, and membership administration. Under the guidance of the (A.S.E.S) and (E.L.O.P) grants the Program Director will lead programs for the San Leandro or the San Lorenzo Unified School District. The Program Director is also charged with coordinating day-to-day operations of summer programs including program coordination scheduling, lesson planning, and implementation. The Program Director will supervise other summer staff, training and development.

Location: Please note we serve several Elementary and Middle school site locations in the San Leandro and San Lorenzo districts

Time Commitment: Full-Time Monday-Friday, 40 hours a week (9:30am-6:00pm)

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • A four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of three years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
  • Demonstrated ability in program planning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, recruitment, motivation and retention of key personnel.
  • Ability to train, supervise and motivate staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with members discipline problems.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Valid State Drivers License.
  • Covid-19 vaccination.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

In order to supervise program and interact with the children, Program Director must be able to engage in high levels of physical activity, including running, jumping, throwing balls and occasional lifting of 50 lbs. or less. The workplace may be in a school setting utilizing a combination of indoor and outdoor; cold weather, warm weather conditions.

Programming Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe and nurturing environment that supports the developmental, social-emotional and physical needs of all students.
  • Design activities and program offerings that reflect active, meaningful and engaging learning methods that promote collaboration and expand student horizons.
  • Create an environment in which students experience values that embrace diversity and equity regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, income level, national origin, physical ability, sexual orientation and/or gender identity and expression.
  • Implement sound fiscal and administrative practices supported by well-defined and documented policies and procedures that meet grant requirements.
  • Build and support collaborative relationships among internal and external stakeholders, including families, schools and community, to achieve program goals.

All employees working with the San Leandro Boys & Girls Club are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationship over minors. Job offers are conditional and contingent upon background clearance.
