Astec Designs is a fast growing ecommerce startup that designs, markets, produces, and fulfills orders for various customizable silicone products, including Siligrams ice trays and May & Lou dog biscuit molds. These goods are produced in-house through a novel, technology-driven manufacturing process of our own design. After just two years in business, we have grown to over 30 employees, were recently featured on NBC’s Today Show, and have produced molds for the likes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Ebay, and the Atlanta Falcons. POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Engineer identifies opportunities for improvement in production and leads projects to develop, test, and implement solutions. Performs a full range of engineering tasks to support and optimize our silicone product manufacturing processes and further expand our production capabilities. Possesses considerable technical ability and communication skills. A strategic leader and creative thinker.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Evaluate and understand existing manufacturing methods including technology and workflows for fabricating tooling, processing silicone into end products, and fulfilling orders accurately.
• As the leader of our fabrication department with several direct reports, ensure completion of day-to-day production responsibilities while pursuing critical R&D projects that improve the safety and efficiency of our manufacturing operation.
• Improve processes and upgrade technology, including order management systems, internal and external communications, production equipment, and related automations.
• Use statistical tools and other means to optimize manufacturing schedules, floorplans, and workflows to improve quality and reduce errors and cost.
• Document and maintain manufacturing process written instructions and training materials.
• Provide training to production personnel on manufacturing processes and new equipment.
• Ensure existing and new manufacturing processes are in conformance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
• Design, source, fabricate, install, and test new production fixtures and major manufacturing innovations, including robotics and automation equipment, to boost efficiency and quality.
• Ensure maintenance of all equipment and provide relevant training to personnel.
• Resolve electrical and mechanical problems in the production area as they arise.
• Confer with leaders in each production department to develop and execute protocols for implementing production changes, such as introducing new products, equipment, and procedures.
• Gather data and analyze production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
• Confer with management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

Job Qualifications

• BS in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, materials preferred)
• 5+ years work experience in manufacturing environment with leadership experience
• Experience in the design and implementation of manufacturing equipment and processes
• Experience in new product introduction
• Excellent working knowledge of various production methods, CAD, and design for manufacturing
• Exceptional technical zeal, problem-solving skills, and reasoning ability
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to direct, manage, and coach several direct reports
• Respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn
• Strong communicator, decision-maker, and collaborator
• Experience working with CNC equipment, laser systems, and 3D printing is a plus
• Experience working with and building custom software solutions to increase automation, accuracy, and analytical insights into production is a plus

Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
