THE DIVISION OF PROBATION & PAROLE/ADULT
DETAIL - The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
TEMPORARY JOB APPOINTMENT - This position may also be filled by temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT - Current permanent status classified State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment, if selected.

As part of a Career Progression Group, this vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a Probation and Parole Officer 1, 2, or 3-Adult, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Probation and Parole Officer 3–Adult is $75,275 annually. Please refer to the "Job Specifications" tab located at the top of the LA Careers "Current Job Opportunities" page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.
Special Entrance Rates:
The Probation and Parole Officer 1-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,590.40 Bi-weekly.
The Probation and Parole Officer 2-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,701.60 Bi-weekly.
The Probation and Parole Officer 3-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,948.00 Bi-weekly.
This position may be filled as a Job Appointment based on this job posting. In the event funds become available for a permanent position within one year, the employee may be converted to a Probation Appointment.

To supervise and investigate adult criminal offenders through the provision of probation, parole, and pardon.
Level of Work:
Entry.
Supervision Received:
Direct from a Probation and Parole Supervisor-Adult or a higher level Probation and Parole ?Adult manager or administrator.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Location of Work:
Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DPSC), Corrections Services, Division of Probation and Parole-Adult.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Probation and Parole Officer 2-Adult by the absence of experienced level probation and parole responsibilities.
Supervise felons and misdemeanants through counseling and referrals to community resources on social adjustment problems.
Enforces conditions of supervision and performs all aspects of the violation process under close supervision.
Conducts criminal justice social background investigations of offenders and makes recommendations for the various decision makers in the criminal justice system (e. g., courts, parole board, pardon board, the Office of the Governor, etc.).
Conducts arrests, transports violators, prepares reports to courts and parole board, and attends and participates in probable cause and revocation hearings.
Investigates and determines amounts of victims' restitution, sets payment schedules, and collects and disburses victims' restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal justice monies.
Places offenders in appropriate drug treatment, vocational rehabilitation, or mental health programs; assists them in obtaining emergency financial aid and support and provides crisis intervention services.
Conduct all activities in compliance with the American Correctional Association (ACA) standards which set specific time constraints, requirements, and regimen for all major activities.
Administer drug tests by obtaining urine samples and evaluating results.
Assist in conducting jail operation audits on facilities housing DPSC inmates.
Make decisions regarding the application of the Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) defensive tactics system to include impact weapons.
Supervises and directs discretionary community service work performed by parolees.
Perform contract compliance audits for Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRC).
Conduct disciplinary hearings for adult inmates in CRCs.
