Job description
General James M. Gavin Power Plant is a 2,600-megawatt supercritical coal-fired power station in the village of Cheshire, Ohio, United States. It is owned by Lightstone Generation LLC, a 50–50 joint venture of The Blackstone Group L.P. and ArcLight Capital.
Responsible for performing entry and intermediate level engineering work activities, requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe and responsible manner.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Ability to work in a fast pace complex environment, in both an individual and team capacity.

- Provide technical guidance with respect to all plant activities to ensure compliance with all appropriate local, state and federal environmental control regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Act and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Support all Plant Safety & Environmental Policies and Procedures. Keep Safety and Environmental as the top priority with respect to all responsibilities and efforts.
- Promote a continuous improvement culture where energy is utilized to identify and improve business gaps.
- Embrace personal development opportunities, either by exposure or training.
- Ability to lead power distribution evaluations (138kV to 120VAC), including relay coordination, short circuit analysis and equipment sizing.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of facility controls systems (Ovation, Net 90, Bailey 820, Bailey 762, Allen-Bradley PLC-5, SLC-500, ControlLogix 5000)
- Optimize material, parts, and equipment inventories to maintain facility in a cost-effective manner
- Provide guidance, technical and field support for the monitoring, inspection and maintenance of the various plant systems and supporting ancillary equipment.
- Conduct results engineering. This includes conducting performance tests, analyzing operating data, and developing operational plans and equipment recommendations to optimize performance and profitability.
- Recommend and direct strategical improvements to equipment design, operations, and maintenance initiatives.
- Support the development of plant O&M and capital forecast, as well as formulate business cases.
- Responsible for project KPI’s: safety, environmental, budget, schedule, quality, reliability, etc.
- Ability to develop technical/construction work scopes and thoroughly review technical proposals.
- Follow the Management of Change Program requirements.
- Ensure document control processes are followed.
- Support policy/procedural development, revisions, as well as training initiatives to ensure zero harm and optimized results.
- Other duties as deemed necessary by Plant Management
- B.S. or advanced degree in related engineering discipline from an accredited university or Associate degree with 10 years of power plant experience.
- Computer Skills: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint); Asset Suite; Primavera (P6)
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s - RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, FactoryTalk) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s – Allen Bradley, Siemens, Schneider).
- Commitment to achieving zero harm with respect to safety and environmental compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Facility Control Systems (Ovation, Net 90, Bailey 820, Bailey 762).
- Experience with OSIsoft (PI) and AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of NEC & NFPA70E.
