Located in San Antonio, The Pineapple School is a child development center and preschool that provides Spanish language and cultural immersion for children six weeks to five years of age.
We are looking for candidates who truly enjoy and appreciate young children and have good verbal and written communication skills in Spanish. There are great opportunities for growth within the school for professional candidates who are looking for a life-time career in teaching.
Duties will consist of:
- Working Monday through Friday in the afternoons, approximate schedule is 12:00pm-6:15pm;
- Interacting with children in the Spanish language, encouraging their development and exposing them to songs, finger plays, music and dance in Spanish;
- Following Minimum Standards for Child Care Licensing at all times;
- Practicing developmentally appropriate techniques and assisting with implementing the curriculum and lesson plans;
- Engaging children in a playful and safe learning environment both indoors and outdoors (outdoor playtime consists of two scheduled 45-minute periods each day);
- Assisting the children during meal times, participating in family style dining with the children and modeling polite table manners;
- Assisting children with personal hygiene, which may include changing diapers and/or cleaning a child and helping him/her to change clothes in the event of an accident;
- Utilizing Conscious Discipline strategies to promote cooperation, constructive problem solving and academic success in the classroom
- Helping to maintain classroom records, cleanliness, and orderliness;
- Closing the classroom on a daily basis;
- Helping to maintain a safe and clean environment inside and outside the classroom (this includes taking out the trash; proper sanitizing of tables, counters, bathrooms, and toys; and organizing drawers, cabinets and shelves);
- Interacting with parents on a daily basis, regularly reporting positive observations of each child;
- Helping out in other parts of the School when needed;
- Attending staff meetings, training events and workshops, including a monthly staff meeting in the evening.
- 100% fluent in Spanish, verbally and written; Proficient in English
- High school diploma or equivalent; Child Development Associates or Bachelor’s in Education a plus
- At least one year experience working in a classroom of young children
- Stability, intelligence and professionalism
- Raised in or otherwise have extensive experience living in a Spanish speaking culture outside of the United States, typically either in Mexico and/or Central and South America (preferred)
