High power, high repetition rate ultrafast lasers are essential for generating and manipulating the electron beams and for most of the science experiments at the X-Ray Free Electron Laser facilities FLASH and European XFEL. In a joint R&D project between DESY and the European XFEL we are advancing ultrafast fibre and solid-state laser front-ends for powering our high-energy, high-repetition rate laser systems which are operating 24/7 with excellent availability. All our laser systems need to be remote controlled and provide excellent timing stability to the facility main oscillator. For a future application in attosecond X-ray generation also carrier-envelope-phase (CEP) stability is required. For developing advanced laser controls and to research future advanced control schemes using machine learning techniques, we are seeking a highly motivated physicist or engineer with focus on ultrafast laser feedback controls.
