Duties
As a full-performance, GS-15 Physicist, you will:
- Serve as a recognized scientific authority in high energy physics and related technology R&D areas for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating research programs in this field in a strategic context on a national and international level.
- Distill, digest, and integrate the conclusions and recommendations concerning current status, trends, and possible future directions and developments of the field of high-energy physics received from various advisory and study groups.
- Assure that effective program management systems are established and implemented for the High Energy Physics Cosmic Frontier program, including those for scientific peer review in partnership program areas.
- Provide scientific and technical advice and assistance in the development and integration of policy and program plans and budgets.
- Select, implement, and manage the High Energy Physics Cosmic Frontier dark matter research program (i.e., acting on emerging opportunities, determining funding levels; recommending and initiating necessary proposal denials and program terminations; and promoting inter-organizational interactions and collaborations) based on the reviews and evaluations, program and agency priorities, and own scientific judgment.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
In addition to meeting the basic education requirements above, applicants must meet the following experience:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
GS-14: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
- Providing input toward planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs and projects in the area of high energy particle physics or closely related research areas, including but not limited to cosmology or particle astrophysics;
- Providing recommendations on the development, coordination, and organization of funding allocations;
- Representing an office and meeting with senior management officials, university, laboratory, and professional groups on scientific research and technology development issues.

- Consulting with scientific personnel both nationally and internationally on sensitive issues and complex areas of importance, such as strategic planning, or coordination of collaborative research and technology development.
