Physical Therapy Assistant

Full Time

• Assist in organizing and implementing physical therapy care in accordance with current rules, regulations and standards of physical therapy and nursing care.

• Assist in identifying special resident problems through observation, risk assessments and follow-up assessment.

• Implement and coordinate restorative care policies and procedures and resident's care plans.

• Assist in interpreting and reinforcing therapy policies and procedures to personnel, residents, and family members as necessary.

• Provide physical therapy for assigned residents according to plan of care.

• Participate in interdisciplinary care planning, in discharge planning and resident assessments as necessary.

• Assist in evaluating resident use of assistive devices and makes appropriate changes and/or recommendations for adjustment.

• Follow facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the unit.

• Maintain a current file of residents treated.

• Maintain an adequate liaison with families and residents.

• Perform other related work as directed by the Supervisor.

• Work in office, therapy area(s) and resident rooms.

• Sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during working hours.

• Subject to frequent interruptions.

• Involved with residents, family members, personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

• Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents/clients, family members, personnel, and visitors.

• Communicate with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department Supervisors.

• Work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays, when necessary, as well as in other positions when necessary.

• Subject to exercising and massaging residents.

• Must be constantly alert for resident safety.

• Attend and participate in continuing educational programs.

• Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday.

• Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses

Education

• Associate degree in Physical Therapy from a physical therapy assistant program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Experience

• Current Physical Therapy Assistant license for state operation.

Specific Requirements

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.

• Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.

• Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.

• Must have patience, tact cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

• Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

• Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
