Your over-all responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the development and rehabilitation of students with mental, emotional and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy.
  • Demonstrates the ability to structure the physical and social environment of the area so that every interaction and activity within the educational program promotes positive goal-directed responses and/or social interactions from the student and facilitates goals of treatment.
  • Meets the students’ goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determines physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with treatment team.

This positions will be split between our CARES School in Dowingtown, Pa and our School for Integrated Learning in West Chester, Pa. Devereux Center for Autism Research and Education Services (CARES) is an educational program licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that provides services to students, ages 5 to 21, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. CARES provides an environment that focuses on teaching each student based on his or her unique strengths and needs. Programming is focused on increasing independence for each student, particularly in the areas of: Communication, Social skills, Self-care routines, Community inclusion, Recreation and leisure, Domestic skills, Self-determination and Employment. The Devereux School for Integrated Learning focuses on building upon the unique strengths of each student. Our school strives to offer a breadth of opportunities for students to express themselves and find personal levels of accomplishment through activities such as: Special Olympics, talent shows and school dances, student government, peer mentoring, service learning, community gardening, and employment education, both in the classroom and in the community.

Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS) center serves children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges and disorders. Located in West Chester and Malvern Pennsylvania, services provided include psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF), residential treatment (RTF), acute inpatient psychiatric hospital (AIP), assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training and social skills training, and approved private school educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges often associated with experiencing some level of trauma in their lives.

EDUCATION: Licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Physical Therapist and bachelor’s degree
EXPERIENCE: Six months of related field experience required; one year preferred. Proficient computer skills, mastery of Microsoft
Office Applications, experience with data collection/analyzing platforms (Radar, Pro-Filer, and/or other internal and external software
applications pertinent to the position). Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires ability
to work independently, prioritize, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and adhere to established guidelines. Valid driver's license
must be maintained.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to administer CPR. Ability to administer first aid. Ability to properly restrain adolescent/adult client. Ability to create and maintain a therapeutic milieu. Regularly requires walking, standing, stooping, bending,
repetitive wrist/hand movement, and pushing/pulling (1/2 to 3/4 of the workday). Seldom requires sitting. May require lifting up to 50
lbs. (1/4 to 1/2 of the workday). Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate with co-
workers and stakeholders in person and via telephone. .Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants, or
other chemical substances or controlled substances. Often drives a Devereux vehicle or van (1/4 to 1/2 of the workday). Regularly
works inside in areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated (1/2 to 3/4 of work time). Some fluctuation in temperature. Also,
often works outside. May work in wet conditions (<1/4 of work time).
Devereux requires all individuals interviewing for a position involving contact with children to complete The Diana Screen, a screening that assesses a candidate’s understanding
of appropriate boundaries between adults and children
