Join a cohort that works to strengthen communication, collaboration and community in local Philadelphia schools. This is the seventh year of an AmeriCorps VISTA project in which VISTAs are placed in selected Philadelphia public schools and offices at the School District of Philadelphia to help manage, develop, and track external community partners. The PHENND Fellows VISTA project, part of our K-16 Partnerships Network, partners with the School District of Philadelphia to expand the infrastructure for community partnership development across Philadelphia. During the 2023-2024 program year, PHENND Fellows will actively build capacity in Philadelphia organizations and participate in extensive professional development as a cohort. This program is run by PHENND (The Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development), a 30-year-old consortium of over 25 colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia region. The consortium actively seeks to revitalize local communities and promote civic responsibility through service learning among the region's higher education institutions. Member Duties : The VISTA will help increase the School District of Philadelphia’s capacity to take on sustainability-related projects and increase the number of sustainability-related resources available through the ongoing SDP GreenFutures plan. This plan's goal is to make every school great and every school green through five focus areas: Education for Sustainability (EfS); Energy and Efficiencies; Consumption and Waste; School Greenscapes; and Healthy Schools and Healthy Living. The VISTA's work will mainly center on Education for Sustainability and Consumption and Waste as they will generate and facilitate the EfS lending library program and assist with litter projects. This will entail constructing a database/organizational system to track inventory, communicating with interested educators, and communicating with potential donors about needs. The VISTA will also work to promote the GreenFutures brand and increase program awareness by developing outreach materials, a newsletter and social media.
