Position Summary

The Department of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has an immediate opening for a Research Imaging Technologist to be engaged in multimodality preclinical imaging.
The individual will support the recently established Animal Biosafety Level 3 (ABSL3) infectious disease imaging facility. The ABSL3 facility is equipped with a comprehensive suite of preclinical imaging equipment, including a Molecubes β-CUBE PET, a Molecubes X-Cube CT, and a MR Solutions 7T MRI. In addition, the individual will interact with and support ongoing activities in the Preclinical Imaging Facility. The preclinical imaging infrastructure in the Department of Radiology interfaces extensively with the Center for Clinical Imaging Research (CCIR), the cyclotron facility with access to a wide array of radiotracers, and the wider Department of Radiology research enterprise (https://www.mir.wustl.edu/research/) to support translational imaging research.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the ABSL3 facility
  • Maintain ABSL3 imaging facility protocols and SOPs to ensure high-standard facility operation in a ABSL3 environment. Ensures compliance with WUSM and external regulatory entities.
  • Track, record and report all ABSL3 facility operations and usage.
  • Perform established QA/QC protocols.
  • Perform or assist in preclinical MR, CT, or PET imaging experiments (after receiving relevant training).
  • Perform anesthesia and specialized procedures on small animals as necessary to complete imaging research experiments according to approved protocols, including dose calculations and animal handling techniques.
  • Perform and record weekly wipe test and manage decay and storage for all laboratory spaces in accordance with Radiation Safety policies.
  • Maintain animal housing area and report husbandry records to Division of Comparative Medicine.
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Provide training for lab personnel that use facility space and equipment in compliance with all regulatory committees governing health and safety policies and procedures.

Working Conditions

This position works in a standard laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical, and radiological hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), lift 30 pounds, pass a safety screening for ability to work in a magnetic field environment and wear respiratory protection such as a N95 mask.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ABSL3 protocols.
  • Experience handling low levels of radioactivity.
  • Experience performing animal procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical reasoning and perform complex mathematical computations and think logically.

Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent of Bachelors degree in science or related field.
  • Certified with American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRTN) or equivalent (CNMT).
  • Three years relevant experience as a staff technologist.
  • One year management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of computers, medical imaging devices, i.e. PET imaging software and devices, knowledge of WU FIS system or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Range

$28.52 - $44.21 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
