POSITION SUMMARY
The Pediatrician functions within the medical clinic to provide direct primary patient care to the children of the Shingle Springs Rancheria as well as the surrounding El Dorado County community. The Pediatrician will work fairly independently but with supervision and direction from the Medical Director.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs patient examinations and assessments.
- Orders/performs necessary laboratory and diagnostic tests and proficiency testing.
- Prescribes and dispenses medications in compliance with established medical protocols.
- Provides child and newborn care and provides clinical case management support to staff providers.
- Interfaces with management to provide clinical input on the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Meets with providers on an ongoing, regular basis to discuss concerns and opportunities for care improvements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid medical license in state of California with no pending or previous disciplinary action from any state licensing entity.
- Current Board Certification in Pediatrics is required.
- Current Unrestricted DEA license is required.
- Current CPR Certification, health care provider level is required.
- Current PALS Certification is required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Pediatric practice is preferred.
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art medical, scientific and treatment methods for pediatrics, and an awareness of medical, educational and psychosocial intervention procedures is required.
- Strong organizational, written and verbal skills.
- Ability to relate and communicate well with a diverse and underserved patient population is required.
- Ability to work within a team setting and with volunteers is essential.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is helpful but not required.
- Post job offer: CPR/BLS certification, TB test, proof of COVID-19 vaccination and annual flu shot (during flu season) are required as a condition of employment, unless a medical/religious accommodation request is provided. Hepatitis B Vaccine will be offered at no cost to employees, but it is not required.
DRUG SCREEN
Shingle Springs Rancheria requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired. The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana. The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws. Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.
Shingle Springs Rancheria recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing. Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.
BACKGROUND CHECK
Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired. Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.

Preference in hiring is given to the most qualified applicant. However, when candidates for an open position are determined to be equally qualified, Native American candidates will have preference for hiring purposes. This means that if the qualifications of the best candidates are comparable, the Native American candidate is given preference. The following order of preference shall be adhered to when hiring: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians members; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court or the State of California) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; 3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; 4) All other documented Native Americans; 5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Indian preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
