Youth Co-Op, Inc., a nongovernmental, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the social and economic conditions of youth, adults, families, refugees and immigrants in South Florida, is seeking full-time bilingual Spanish/English PE Teacher Certified in the State of Florida to provide daily school routine for children of a variety ages and educational backgrounds. Services will be provided within the children’s shelter under auspices of US Department of Health And Human Services/Office of Refugee Resettlement, and operated by our partner US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee each student’s educational plan, provide initial educational assessment and oversee all curriculum development.

  • Organize games and challenges that promote physical activity among children and young adults to develop motor skills and physical development among younger children, and proper exercise and eating habits among older children.
  • Teach a range of different sports and provide young people with an opportunity to develop and improve their social and physical skills.
  • Participate as a team member and attend meetings with treatment team members to discuss children’s behavior if necessary.
  • Provide program coordinator and/or program manager with weekly updates of students.
  • Attend training provided internally and in the community and apply newly gained knowledge in providing services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Education.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Florida Teaching Certificate/or Official Statement of Status of Eligibility/or temporary teaching certificate required
  • Level 2 Background screening
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students English as well as all other basic educational topics.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with educational curriculum and providing educational assessments.
  • Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions.
  • Maintain a reliable automobile with adequate insurance coverage.
  • Knowledge of state, community and agency resources.
  • Prior work experience with refugee or minority families and demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity.BA/BS in Education.
  • All applicants will be subject to Level 2 criminal background screening per FS 435.04
