The position of PT Student Desk Worker is to function under the supervision of the Support Services Manager to perform duties related to the security of Moody Bible Institute’s Chicago campus. Default assignment seated at a desk in a classroom, residential, or office building in Chicago’s near north neighborhood.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor the building lobby entrance, uphold access control procedures, and ensure building security
  • Actively observe and report life safety concerns that effect the building
  • Display an ability to be assertive and knowledgeable about Institute policy
  • Professionally and promptly respond to incidents in your building under the direction of a shift supervisor
  • Report all suspicious activity using the appropriate chain of command
  • Coordinate and cooperate with emergency services that respond to the building
  • Acknowledge, greet, and assist students, faculty and guests as they enter the building, maintaining an approachable and professional atmosphere at the desk at all times
  • Function as on-site liaison with faculty and staff
  • Oversee temporary parking permit issuance
  • Assist the Institute community’s needs by directing them to the appropriate internal staff or departments or providing them with contact information for outside agencies
  • Issue and maintain records of temporary key checkouts
  • Oversee desk area and cashbox
  • Monitor assigned CCTV cameras
  • Monitor 2-way radio and remain engaged in all campus security related activities
  • Train new student desk workers regarding desk specific duties
  • Function as the Dispatcher during times of high call volume
  • Regularly monitor department incident reports
  • Perform related and specific duties as assigned by the Chief of Public Safety or Support Services Manager
  • Be aware of building layout with exits, and be prepared to communicate this with emergency responders

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ambulatory ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Sufficient writing skills to prepare incident reports
  • Sufficient human relation skills to resolve confrontation, affect behavior of others, assert oneself, and convey a positive image of the Department

Preferred Requirements

  • Security experience in the area of higher education
  • Familiarity with Blackboard Connect applications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint applications
  • Previous First Aid/CPR/AED Training

Work Environment/Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. In addition individuals will use security equipment such as video monitors, 2-way radio equipment, and security keys and electronic fobs.

No travel is expected for this position.
