Summary:
The Special Education Parent Liaison is tasked with supporting families in understanding the IEP process and how it is used as a tool to collaborate in their child’s educational plan. They serve as a bridge to community resources. The Parent liaison runs the Special Education Advisory Committee and other parent groups as well as informative events for the community in relation to the IEP process. They also address frequent questions and provide guidance to families about how to meaningfully participate in the IEP process.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to phone calls and emails from parents with the purpose of navigating the IEP process, the BVSD systems and connecting to community resources.
- Coordinate monthly SEAC meetings, including the identification of members, organizing purpose, guiding process and creating the climate for an advisory structure.
- Coordinate and implement parent education events. This can include webinars, on site events and parent groups based on the evolving needs of parents of students with IEPs. Events are organized in alignment with the Special Education leadership to support alignment and consistency.
- Connect families to district and community resources who can best address their needs. This includes maintaining a parent newsletter and other communication systems.
- Complete annual parent survey as required by Colorado Department of Education.
- Attend district trainings and meetings to increase capacity to improve family-school partnerships. Maintain district partnerships to remain current in District practices and protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
- Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred:
- Bilingual/biliterate English and a second language
- Develop strong working relationships and Interact daily in person with other members of school staff and parents and possess comfortable interpersonal skills and cooperative attitudes
- Ability to effectively facilitate learning among adults
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
- Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process. The compensation offered to the successful applicant may vary based on factors including experience and education.
