Parent Educator / Social Worker

Full Time Position Available, Bucks County Family Service Center

DEPARTMENT: Catholic Social Services - Community Based Services Division

REPORTS TO: Administrator

Summary

Provides comprehensive services in individual and group modalities to clients seeking assistance with pregnancy and/or parenting issues/concerns. Conducts intake assessments, linkage to supportive services within the CSS network as well as community resources as appropriate. Recruits, develops and facilitates pregnancy and parenting classes for expectant families for the purpose of support and education. Provides some evening/weekend pregnancy/parenting events at a CSS site or community partner site.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts initial screenings to determine service needs, schedule appointments, and perform assessments. Conduct home visits as needed, requested or assigned.
• Provides comprehensive services, linkage to appropriate community resources, and maintains up-to-date resources book of other service providers.
• Responsible for services provided to clients, follow-up of services, and monitoring progress.
• Actively recruits for programs to maintain a consistent client base.
• Develops and facilitates pregnancy/parenting education groups both at CSS sites and community partner sites.
• Provides outreach and services to expectant fathers and client's family members as well as the pregnant mother.
• Provides weekly pregnancy education and outreach to WIC centers, OBGYN clinics and other satellite locations.
• Responsible for effectively organizing and managing the center's Diaper Bank and Baby Boutique.
• Works collaboratively with Parishes and other community organizations in providing programming to address the needs of individuals/families experiencing pregnancy and/or parenting needs.
• Maintains weekly documentation of services provided and maintains organized client files.
• Provides monthly service reports of group statistics and outcomes to Administrator.
• Completes and submits all paperwork required by CSS and contractually funded programs (ie... Real Alternatives) weekly.
• Participate in monthly staff meetings, weekly supervision, and CSS training/meetings and meetings/ training required by funders.
• Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of Catholic Social Services as presented in the Mission Statement.
• Strict adherence to the Archdiocesan position on abortion.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, child abuse reporting, and de-escalation techniques.
• Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, clients, and visitors; cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in a diverse workplace and with a diverse client population
• Knowledge of social service resources and delivery systems to meet a wide range of client needs
• Ability to organize, efficiently document, and routinely update information in web based database.
• Requires access to and use of an automobile for timely provision of community-based services

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field of study

Experience

• 1 - 3 years of professional experience

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time during both indoors and outdoors events.
