Position Summary:
The Outreach Worker provides street-based crisis intervention services, gateway services, referrals, and crisis support counseling to homeless youth on the streets. Supports homeless youth transition into a stable living environment.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- The Outreach Worker will work out in the community, as well as spend time at Operation SafeHouse shelters to ensure a seamless transition for youth that are leaving the streets.
- Work closely with all street youth who voluntarily enter into SafeHouse programs.
- Complete daily time and activity sheets. Conduct pre-entrance surveys with street youth and administer post–tests for youth who partake in SafeHouse shelter services.
- Responsible for tracking the progress of youth who have entered our programs through street outreach or through the Safe Place Program. This includes following-up for up to 3 months once they have exited the program.
- Teach risk reduction strategies and coping skills to youth on the streets.
- Conduct street outreach with other street outreach team members to ensure personal safety.
- Complete and submit monthly reports to Outreach Director by the 5th of each month. Maintain statistical data as assigned.
- Maintain clean driving record, keep company vehicle clean and report maintenance issues/auto repair issues to agency in written form.
- Serve as Operation SafeHouse liaison at community events.
- Complete mileage log as applicable for driving between sites during outreach activities.
- Make weekly trips/visits to bus stations, local malls, Safe Place sites and community centers located at parks and other areas where street youth congregate.
- Attend community fairs to promote awareness of agency programs and interact with street youth to build trust in our services.
- Maintain proper boundaries with clients to ensure appropriate therapeutic relationships.
- Complete applicable paperwork and enter data into HMIS.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Experience working with at risk youth or homeless population.
3. Good listening and problem-solving skills.
4. Have the ability to work as a team and strong networking skills to build community partnerships.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills; Computer and word processing skills.
6. Must have current driver license, clean driving record and reliable transportation to provide services listed above.
7. Pass state criminal background check.

- Work indoors and outdoors.
- Fast paced
- Moderate to loud noise level
Physical Demands:
· Must be able to remain in a stationary position
· Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
· The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
· Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions.
· Move from one location to another to provide program services to youth on streets.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
