Position Summary:

UAA College of Arts and Sciences seeks candidates for its Event and Outreach Coordinator. In this position, you will plan, organize, implement and attend departmental and college events, summer outreach programs and not for credit courses offered to the community; which requires being able to attend events that can occur on weekends and evenings. You will also plan, develop, and implement student recruitment initiatives in order to drive enrollment in the College of Arts and Sciences. There will be on-going collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences communication specialist, the Dean’s Office, the College’s academic units, as well as with academic advisors and the UAA Office of Admissions. Position is located in Anchorage, Alaska at the UAA campus, with opportunities for some remote work for those who desire a hybrid schedule. Duties:

10Communications: In collaboration with the CAS communications specialist, develop and maintain website and social media content. Assist the leadership team with other duties as they relate to events and outreach. Alongside CAS communications specialist create and develop communications to students. Perform graphic design and photographic services; serve as a spokesperson, and conduct communication research and evaluation.Essential
45Event Support: Plan, implement and attend department events (including Model UN, STEM Day, seminars, conferences, CAS Tours, etc.). Assist Communication Specialist with college events. Provide support for recruitment events specific to the College of Arts and Sciences. Planetarium support (ticketing, coordinate logistics for private shows/collaborate with ASD) Plan and facilitate recruitment events specific to the College of Arts and Sciences.Essential
45Student Outreach: Conduct outreach efforts targeting key stakeholders across Alaska, including K-12 teachers and guidance counselors, employers, community organizations and associations; perform outreach to high school guidance/career counselors and educators; and coordinate tours of College of Arts and Sciences facilities. Create, develop and implement a strategic plan for student recruitment in the College, in collaboration with the college leadership team and communications specialist. Write outreach materials; edit and evaluate content for accuracy, consistency and clarity; Assist the Dean with other duties as assigned by the leadership team as they relate to recruitment. Serve as a point contact for prospective students interested in the College. Work with department outreach coordinators to schedule campus visits. Coordinate summer programming for K-12 students, including marketing, planning, liaison with the departments. Oversee not-for-credit courses in the College.Essential

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite Programs (Word, Power Point, and Excel), Google suite, databases, online data queries and reports.

  • Knowledge of FERPA regulations.

  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner and be responsible for complex assignments


  • Preferred Experience:

    • Experience in higher education.
    • Familiarity with the College of Arts and Sciences and our academic programs.


    Required Education or Training:

    Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field and two years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.



    Salary Information:

    This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
