Job Duties

• Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.

• Applies and removes casts, splints and other orthopedic devices.
• Conducts patient and family education regarding orthopedic appliances.
• Teaches medical students and residents' application of casts, splints and other orthopedic devices.
• Assists R.N. in coordinating patient flow and rooming patients.
• Obtains age-appropriate vital signs upon admission.
• Documents patient care per established clinic policy and procedure.
• Documents ICD 9 and CPT codes for orthopedic treatments and procedures.
• Assists Manager of Nursing Services in special orders, doing research on providers and cost comparison.
• Prepares, supplies and cleans patient visit rooms.
• Maintains equipment and orders supplies as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Two years' experience in health care setting (orthopedics skills preferred)

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Orthopedic Technician certification (preferred)

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge and ability to use IDX and the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Working knowledge of basic word processing.
• Knowledge and ability to use GroupWise messaging, appointment scheduling and the calendar.
