Description
ConocoPhillips’ Commercial business is responsible for marketing the company’s global production and engaging in third-party marketing and trading. North America Gas and Power (NAGP) has been ranked a Platts Top 5 U.S. Natural Gas Marketer since 2002.
NAGP delivers competitive advantages for ConocoPhillips through industry leadership, first-in-class customer service, and unmatched operational reliability. Within NAGP, the West Region is responsible for improving realized margins for ConocoPhillips’ growing equity portfolio and leading a sizeable third-party marketing and trading business.
The Natural Gas Originator – West Region is the primary external interface with existing key customers and seeks to develop and engage new customers. Origination responsibilities require the preferred candidate to be familiar with the West US marketing, trading, and transportation infrastructure, and have the expertise to identify and originate commodity, asset, and service transactions. This role is critical to the success of the Commercial team and requires the ability to build value through evaluating, recommending, and executing disciplined physical natural gas marketing strategies, along with structured products and select financial offerings.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Expanding business in PNW/Rockies/Desert Southwest/California
- Pursuing gas sales and asset management agreements with municipals, LDC’s, industrials, power generators, and marketing companies
- Pursuing gas purchases, marketing agreements, and asset management agreements with producers and midstream companies
- Handling strategic accounts for end-user markets and producers and developing tailored solutions including negotiation of asset management agreements
- Targeting new and existing customers in support of key initiatives including volume and marketing growth
- Optimizing of transportation and storage assets
- Developing, maintaining, and growing long-lasting strategic customer relationships
- Working with markets to secure gas supply and energy management agreements
- Identifying and executing focused marketing and trading strategies
- Working with producers to enhance value via marketing agreements and unique product offerings
- Overseeing all aspects of the deal making process, including analysis, due diligence, negotiation, and closing
- Researching customer opportunities in Pacific Northwest and Rockies regions, executing strategies jointly created with Vice President of the West Region
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key internal stakeholders such as physical and financial trading, scheduling, structuring, credit, accounting, and legal
- Engaging customers through presentation of market fundamentals and ConocoPhillips’ marketing messaging
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Math, Science, other related field, or foreign equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in gas trading, origination, or related activity
- Intermediate proficiency in use of MS O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and Teams
- Willing and able to work (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work bid week, after hours, weekends and holidays
- Willing and able (with or without a reasonable accommodation) to travel overnight 15% of the time to meet with customers and attend industry events on an annual basis
Preferred:
- 3+ years of experience with PNW/Rockies trading or origination
- Advanced knowledge of risk management concepts and tools
- Intermediate knowledge of West natural gas contracts and product types
- Ability to assist with cash trading and asset optimization
- Recognized as an industry leader
- Ability to leverage relationships and provide outstanding customer service to internal and external stakeholders
- History of delivering on commitments
- Responds inventively, flexibly, and positively when faced with challenges and demands
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented, dynamic trade floor environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to provide updates to asset owners, traders and schedulers
- Provides quality deliverables (e.g. internal reporting and external presentations)
- Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
- Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
- Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
