About the position:

The Ophthalmic Technician plays a critical role, assisting ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions. May administer eye exams, administer eye medications, and instruct the patient in care and use of corrective lenses.

Essential functions:

  • Performs initial part of exam for the physician.
  • Patient history, including past medical history and chief complaint.
  • Performs testing as needed.
  • Assists back office procedure to ensure good patient/doctor workflow.
  • Patient education.
  • Prepares necessary paperwork, and detailed documentation.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience required for the position:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Two years Medical Technician experience or Certified Ophthalmic Technician or Medical Technologist preferred.
  • Must possess some general medical knowledge including diseases and medications that are pertinent to patient care in ophthalmology.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA policies and regulations.
  • Experience performing OCT & Visual fields.
  • Experience with EMR.
