We utilize a team-based model including embedded Behavioral Health Clinicians as well as Case Managers, Care Coordinators and Community Health Workers.


Summary


The ophthalmic technician will assist optometrists, clinical/clerical staff to facilitate the efficient daily clinic flow of patients. Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service skills, and written/verbal communication skills are required - multilingual, although not required, is a plus. Job related experience is required. Computer literacy is required.


Education/Training:

High School Diploma Required

1-3 years of ophthalmic technician experience. Certification in Ophthalmic Assisting Preferred

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Good comfort level with computer systems


Compensation: The starting rate for this position is $19.19 per hour and can increase depending on experience.

Responsibilities:

History taking and Patient Assessment: Includes a full medical and ophthalmic patient history with current medications, allergies and review of patient general medical history (surgeries, review of systems), chief complaint and pain

Visual field and acuity testing: Distance and Near evaluation, Pinhole

Ophthalmic photography and ability to perform OCT testing

Tonometry: (preferred but not necessary), Goldmann Applanation, Icare Applanation

Dilation assessment: including anterior chamber depth assessment and instillation of drops, as needed.

General evaluation: including stereo evaluation and color vision examination using Ishihara Color Plates

Correctly summarizes and documents what the optometrist says during an examination, including but not limited to, proper charting of the examination: documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for

Able to conduct a basic Visual Acuity (VA) assessment.

Collect and document the patient's chief complaint.

Verify the patient's ocular and medical health

Document any medications patient is

Ability to educate on contact lens care, insertion, and removal

Ability to fit and repair hardware for prescription glasses.

Ability to take and document accurate blood pressures.
