Universal Logistics Inc. is an International Freight Forwarding and Logistics Company, actively seeking to employ a full time Office Manager at our Cleveland, Ohio office. Universal Logistics Inc., a Canadian family owned and operated business, established in 1949 and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, operates from six Canadian and two U.S. branch offices, offering five core services; U.S. and Canadian Customs Brokerage, International Ocean and Air Freight, Cross Border and Domestic Trucking, Warehouse/Distribution and Freight and Customs Consulting.
Office Manager - Overview
In the role of Manager at our Cleveland office, the selected candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the daily activities of the Operations Team. Working collaboratively with the Canadian Head Office Team, the successful candidate will also play a key role in developing and implementing a plan to improve operational efficiencies, ensure long term client support and to identify opportunities for the growth and expansion of our international forwarding services in the U.S.A.
The selected candidate will need to possess an entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to think strategically about our business and our clients’ needs to deliver exceptional client service levels.

In order to be successful in this role you will need the following:
Business Development Responsibilities (included, but not limited to)
- Develop strategy and market the company’s services to generate new business relationships, increase revenue growth, and present solutions to meet client’s needs.
- Work closely with clients and overseas partners to strengthen and develop relationships and identify new revenue opportunities.
- Contact current, past and potential clients to identify new sales opportunities
- Coordinate freight quotations to clients and freight agents
- Create budget and revenue targets
Operations Responsibilities (included, but not limited to)
- Effectively manage an operations team to ensure employee performance goals are met or exceeded
- Implement and improve operational systems and procedures by creating Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P) for all job functions to ensure consistency, accuracy and exceptional client satisfaction
- Identify target areas in which the business can improve processes, maximize revenue, reach operational excellence and implement improvements where necessary
- Recruit and hire qualified candidates when required
- Manage the evaluation and selection of vendors to optimize freight costs, service and transit times
Requirements
- Excellent knowledge of freight forwarding and regulatory requirements across multiple
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- An ability to take and administer direction
- A keen ability to manage issues and problem solve
- A keen ability to work collaboratively with others
- An ability to build a strong rapport with our clients and to retain their support of our service
- A thorough understanding of the full range of logistics services we have to offer
- An ability to develop new business opportunities for both clients and prospects
- Computer proficient including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint as well as the ability and desire to learn web-based programs specific to the transportation and logistics field
Experience
- 5-10 years’ experience working in an operational capacity for an international ocean and air freight forwarder
Preferred but not essential:
- Middle management operations experience with an international freight forwarder
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics or Supply Chain
- Previous role involving extensive client contact
- International freight forwarding sales experience
