Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care.
Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.
Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources.
May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.
The Hospital and Clinical Operations Supervisor (HCOS) is recognized as an administrative leader and clinical resource.
The incumbent provides operational oversight throughout the Medical Center.
In collaboration with leadership teams, the HCOS has the authority to act on behalf of Unit Directors, Patient Care Directors and Hospital Management.
On a shift to shift basis, the HCOS acts independently to problem solve and makes timely decisions to positively impact patient care, and ensures effective communication and collaboration amongst departments and multidisciplinary teams.
Through operational oversight, the position seeks to continually improve patient care delivery and care coordination.
Under the leadership of the Central Resource Group Unit Director, the Hospital and Clinical Operations Supervisor is responsible for providing operational and administrative oversight throughout the Medical Center.
Ensures quality of patient care delivery through oversight in support of clinical operations, clinical resource, administrative management and follow-up of patient related issues.
Is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s).
Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes.
Accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care.
Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.
Provides direct management and supervision of employees in the absence of management.
Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.
Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources.

Department Description

The Critical Care Resource Team Resource Team (CCRT) is a unit that is part of the Central Resource Group.
RNs provide direct nursing care at both the Parnassus and Mission Bay locations on all adult critical care areas, the ED and the PACU.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of full-time acute or critical care direct care clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital/medical center
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in the charge nurse role and/or through mentoring/staff development or committee work
  • Demonstrates leadership and management skills
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
  • Willingness to flex up to 100% for additional coverage, meetings, projects or committee work
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with overall clinical operations
  • In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations and internal policies.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance. Provides input to decision-makers on human resources matters
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent experience in an academic medical center
  • Hospital Supervisor or equivalent experience
  • Critical Care experience
  • Management experience
  • Current involvement in professional nursing organizations (ACNL, ANA, AONE, etc.)
  • Master's Degree preferred.

License/Certification


  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS Certification
