Job Summary: The role of Fitness Specialist is responsible for leading and encouraging guests and members while they strive to reach their fitness goals. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the facility.

Requirements:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
  • Maintain knowledge of correct maintenance procedures and use of equipment; report any equipment failures in a timely manner
  • Maintain knowledge of POS system and member-based system
  • Schedule personal trainings, sign member/guests up for fitness classes, welcome and check member/guests into the wellness center
  • Anticipate member/guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all members/guests
  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times
  • Perform fitness assessments, determine exercise prescriptions, and design workout programs for a diverse population, including a variety of high risk clientele
  • Assist the Program Manager with strategic planning, budgeting and reporting
  • Resolve member/guest complaints, ensuring member/guest satisfaction
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas
  • Maintain complete knowledge of property and Watersound Club as a whole
  • Perform opening and closing procedures according to checklist
  • Greet members/guests
  • Maintain knowledge of hours of operation, memberships, fees, services, products and merchandise
  • Assist with fitness center equipment usage as needed
  • Maintain towel supply and locker rooms
  • Monitor member/guest safety
  • Sell retail merchandise; Price merchandise according to guidelines established by manager
  • Display and stock merchandise. Remove damaged/soiled merchandise
  • Perform all cashier duties including, but not limited to, sales, voids, discounts, returns, etc
  • Schedule and monitor daily group exercise classes and equipment
  • Assist with wellness programming and events monthly as required
  • Monitor member/guests/associates’ safety at all times
  • Always maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certification
  • All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Computer experience including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Experience in a wellness/fitness setting and/or a passion for wellness/fitness preferred
  • Degree or certification in wellness/ health preferred
  • Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job-related needs?
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English?

  • Detail oriented and thorough??
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests?
  • Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards?
  • Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant friendly way?

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, may be required to reach with hands and arms, bend, lift, kneel, and drive a car
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more
  • Ability to withstand frequent exercise

  • Indoor and/or outdoor??
  • Exposure to extreme heat or cold depending on season??
  • Subject to injury from falls, burns, odors, or cuts from equipment?
