Saint Gobain is now hiring entry-level Mixers!

Mixer I operates or tends machines and/or manually mixes or re-screens materials such as abrasive grains, ceramic materials, chemicals, resins and/or other compounds to prepare mix for Mixer II and/or Molding functions.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required of the Mixer I.

Materials & Products

  • Receives/retrieves and measures various types of material in small to large quantities stored in various containers (i.e., 40-pound containers, 50-pound bags, bulk bags, totes, large drums, hoppers).
  • Works with array of raw and/or previously mixed materials for a limited role in the entire mixing process such as screening, re-screening product or preparation of the bond material for handoff to Mixer II and Molding function.

Equipment

  • Receives well-defined work orders/recipe information via computer or hardcopy. May input work results in computer.
  • Operates various size re-screeners, automatic screening machines, mixers, large blenders, paint shaker, and other equipment specific to their business to prepare mix and/or to eliminate lumps and balls from previously mixed materials to prepare mix for product making steps. Aged mixes are re-screened before being used for molding to soften the grain mix.
  • May work with accuracy feed systems, scales and various measuring equipment to obtain, weigh, measure, and/or adjust materials and products to ensure conformance to work order.
  • Adds or mixes materials for processing using hand tools or other devices. Places materials in the automatic screener, re-screener or mixer manually or via hoist, fork truck, and/or hopper.
  • Utilizes various screening or re-screening equipment to screen materials per specifications.
  • May use hand tools to dislodge and clear jammed materials or other items from machinery and equipment.
  • Cleans machinery, workspace, and tools using vacuum, hose, hands and various hand tools.
  • May drive fork and or hand/stand trucks to transport supplies, materials and finished products between work areas

Procedures

  • Receives clear work orders at start of shift from group leader, supervisor or molder. Reads work order to determine production specifications and follows specific formulation.
  • Selects, examines and weighs materials to ensure conformance to formulation and quality standards to work order requirements.
  • Dumps or pours specified amounts of materials in a particular sequence into machinery or equipment, starts machines to mix, screens or re-screens ingredients, and then screens or allows product to mix for specified times according to work order requirements.
  • Stops mixer or screening process when specified product quality is obtained, and performs appropriate testing (i.e. target workability) to ensure compliance with specifications. Process may include inserting different sized screens to achieve the required grit size per work order.
  • Unloads mixed, screened or re-screened mixtures onto conveyors or other transport method for further processing.
  • Records operational and production data on hard copy and/or the mix container. Moves finished mix into container(s) and delivers mix directly to specified recipient.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment and to avoid contamination between mixes (colors, grains, grits).
  • May be responsible to ensure proper inventory of raw material used in the production of product.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING TIME

  • A minimum of high school degree or general education degree (GED).
  • Some computer skills preferred.
  • This position requires up to 3 months’ work experience to become proficient in all phases of the job to work independently.

Complexity

  • Follows detailed instructions in the mixing or re-screening of mix formulas to ensure a quality product will be manufactured within the mixing or molding area. Duties may include routine and repetitive operation of equipment concurrently.
  • Receives/requests clear, well-defined work order for a particular mix via computer, group leader, supervisor or mixer/molder. Work order specifies properties of materials that need to be achieved during screening, rescreening or mixing functions. If target workability not achieved, re-screener needs to make adjustment(s) to achieve product conformity.
  • May observe operation of several jobs in unison to ensure continuity of flow, safety, and efficient operation, and to detect malfunctions.

Latitude of Judgment

  • Daily screening, re-screening and mixing responsibilities are made with area group leader, planning the day from work orders, re-screen list or other specification document that is communicated daily verbally or via posting. Some judgment required for outdated or unclear work orders, and to visually inspect/adjust end product to standards.
  • Latitude of judgment is limited because the incumbent needs to follow well-defined work orders or screening/re-screen instructions to pass target workability test.
  • Receives supervision by Group Leaders or Supervisors. This position does not supervise others but may be called upon to train backups for position.

Physical Demands/Efforts

  • The Mixer I may commonly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance and occasionally weight greater than 50 pounds with lift devise or rollers when appropriate.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for continuous periods of time, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.

Mental & Visual Demands

  • Concentrated mental and visual attention is regularly required for performing work to close tolerance of accuracy and quantity.

Work Environment

  • The Mixer I is exposed to an industrial environment where temperatures may vary due to season, dust is present, and noise level requires hearing protection.
  • While performing the duties of this job within the manufacturing environment, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and in narrow aisles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne dust.

Various PPE devices and equipment such as gloves, safety shoes, hearing protection, dust masks, respirators, back support and safety glasses may be required.

Schedule: Current openings available on 1st shift Monday-Friday. Typical hours for 1st shift are 6AM-230PM

Pay: Mixer I positions normally start between $21.84-$23.48. In addition to the hourly wage, employees are eligible for a monthly bonus program with the opportunity to take home up to $500/month.
