Operates computer and peripheral equipment to process data related to charging metal and fuel into the furnace. Assists in other melt line duties as assigned.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)

• Reads work orders or received oral instructions to determine work assignments, material or equipment needs.
• Conducts daily inspection of equipment.
• Enters commands to clear computer system and start operation.
• Observes continuous operation of automatic machines to ensure that products meet specifications and to detect jams or malfunctions, making adjustments as necessary.
• Turns valves and dials of machines to regulate pressure, temperature, and speed and feed rates, and to set cycle times.
• Inventories and records quantities of materials and finished products, requisitioning additional supplies as necessary.
• Maintains inventories of materials.
• Notifies supervisor of errors or equipment stoppage.
• Clears equipment at end of operating run and reviews schedule to determine next assignment.
• Records problems which occurred, such as down time, and actions taken.
• Maintains cleanliness of the production area and metal storage yard.
• Meets or exceeds hourly production rates every hour.
• Maintains cleanliness of the production area.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
