PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORY MED (IN-PATH-IUINA)

Job Summary


The Medical Technologist will assist to conduct clinical studies and participate in development of clinical and research assays. We are seeking a candidate that is a certified Medical Technologist, preferably with experience in a clinical laboratory. Current research and clinical testing performed in our laboratory include cell sorting, flow cytometry, cell banking, DNA/RNA extraction, next generation sequencing and testing of novel hematology instruments.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Participates in the initiation; sample collection and data collection, shipment preparation, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex clinical studies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Identifies, collects, and de-identifies, enrolls, aliquot and process samples for clinical research studies. Samples may include blood, sputum, stool, urine, throat swabs, wound swabs, urogential and body fluids.
  • Completes informed consent of patients.
  • Responsible for study specific data entry in to industry Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems.
  • Documents and accounts for all incoming samples and materials.
  • Transports materials and samples to and from both IU Research sites as well as collection sites.
  • Ensures proper communication and compliance with internal and external parties.
  • Performs other applicable duties as assigned

General Responsibilities

  • Provides training and guidance to technicians
  • Performs exams using proper equipment as ordered by providers
  • Checks to be sure all reports are filed promptly and sent to ordering providers for review
  • Makes sure charges are entered correctly by checking order list or by entering data into EMR for outside providers, so patients will be billed properly
  • Sends test results to qualified provider for analysis
  • Monitors equipment and performs regular maintenance and inspections as needed
  • Ensures equipment is repaired and is in good working order

Qualifications


EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school associated with technician specialty

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years experience in technician specialty

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Associated state technical certification upon date of hire

  • Experience with lab testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology or Molecular, specifically a firm background in Hematology
  • Knowledge of susceptibility testing, gram staining, agar plate reading, MALDI ID, serial dilutions and contriving of blood samples

Working Conditions / Demands


The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information


This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.

Work Hours


This position is Monday through Friday with no weekend requirements.
