Job description

The Medical Coder/Biller Instructor will prepare students for employment in a variety of health care settings as entry level coder, medical record coder, coding technician, or coding clerks, or medical coder/biller. Program content includes but is not limited to medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding systems, fundamentals of disease process including pharmacology, health care delivery systems, basics of medical records services, ethical and legal responsibilities, safety/security procedures, basic data processing, and employability skills.

Job Requirements (The candidate must be qualified in one of the areas listed below.)

1. Must have a minimum of six years of full-time occupational experience or the equivalent in part-time experience as a coder specialist. Special Note: The applicant shall be required to hold the appropriate valid certificate, license, or registration.

2. Must have a minimum of six years of full-time occupational experience or the equivalent in part-time experience in a medical records occupation. The applicant shall be required to hold the appropriate valid certificate, license, or registration issued by the state of Florida or nationally recognized credentialing agency when occupational credentialing is required for program approval or for students to obtain an appropriate level of employment.

3. Must have a minimum of six year full-time or the equivalent of part-time occupational experience as a medical assistant. Applicants must have documentation of industry certification when state or national industry certifications are available and applicable.

4. Must have a minimum of six years of full-time occupational experience or the equivalent in part-time experience as a medical records transcriptionist. The applicant shall be required to hold the appropriate valid certificate, license, or registration issued by the state of Florida or nationally recognized credentialing agency when occupational credentialing is required for program approval or for students to obtain an appropriate level of employment.

Applicants must have documentation of industry certification when state or national industry certifications are available and applicable.

Compensation (per TALC Agreement with The School District of Lee County):

  • Starting Salary: $50,711.00
  • 206-day calendar work year
