Medical Assistant - Certified - Practicum

Temporary Medical Assistant - Certified Practicum opportunities located throughout Carilion's Footprint. Some of those areas would be New River Valley, Roanoke, Shenandoah Valley and other area with Carilion physician practices. Following 4-week practicum, Human Resources will work with individuals for a potential to obtaining Full Time employment.

Highlights of Practicum:

IN THIS PROGRAM WE WILL

» Support and help you refine your clinical, communication and teamwork skills

» Deliver fundamental training in an electronic medical record

» Provide experience in 1-2 ambulatory clinics

FORMAT

» 4-week paid program

» Day shift Monday through Friday

» 40 hours a week

UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

» Carilion Human Resources team will support you as you progress to full-time employment

» Time spent in Carilion’s MA-C Practicum will count toward the benefits start date for those transitioning into a Carilion employee eligible for benefits

ELIGIBILITY

» Need to be a graduate of Carilion approved program

» Need to have a medical assistant certification through a recognized national professional association

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP), Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or any agency recognized by the US Department of Education, or comparable military training and experience preferred.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration:

Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists (CMA-Certificate), The National Association of Healthcare Professions, or the National Healthcareer Association. May be hired on a provisional status once the applicant receives the letter confirming they have taken the certification exam and have a provisional passing score.

Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirements. Must attend the CMA cohort sessions. Effective communication skills in order to work with the public. Computer skills to utilize database systems to perform job duties required. Must be able to problem-solve. Keyboarding required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
