The Opportunity:

Since opening in 1996, the mission of Chelsea Piers Fitness has never changed: provide unrivaled space, unmatched sports facilities, and best-in-class programming all under one roof. Chelsea Piers has proven its commitment to world-class fitness with its 130,000 square foot flagship club in Chelsea and a stand-alone club in Downtown Brooklyn. In the Spring of 2023, Chelsea Piers Fitness will expand to Prospect Heights opening our second stand- alone 52,000 square foot club.

Both the Chelsea and Brooklyn locations feature studio-quality fitness programming, indoor swimming pools, recreational and competitive sports clubs, comprehensive personal training services, communal work and social spaces, artisanal food offerings, and a year-round calendar of social and cultural events that reflect the ethos of the neighborhoods they serve. Chelsea Piers Fitness is designed to inspire and reflect the creative needs of its members as they build toward achieving their fitness goals.

Role & Responsibilities:

As an integral member of the Chelsea Piers Fitness team, you will oversee our club-level marketing team, and help them cultivate, develop, and manage the communities we build inside and outside of our fitness clubs. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, the you will develop an annual member events strategy across multiple clubs, source new partners for high-level events and partnerships, build neighborhood relationships that support brand growth, and develop a team of marketing and event producers who can execute this detailed strategy.

Responsibilities of the role fall into the following categories:

  • People Management of Marketing Associates (50%)
  • Event Strategy + Production (25%)
  • Community Outreach + Brand Positioning (25%)

General Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the Marketing Associate team, their work, and their productivity through regular in-person individual and group meetings.
  • Build strong relationships with each club GM to ensure business needs are incorporated into in-club events and community strategy
  • Track member events and in-club marketing expenditures back to marketing budget

People Management (50%)

  • Work closely with in-club Marketing Associate team on an annual member events strategy, aligning to themes and promotional strategy across clubs
  • Audit all promotional materials for events, copyediting and proofing all deliverables
  • Oversee all in-club marketing assets, first assessing need and then align to multi-club strategy
  • Oversee all in-club signage for clarity, design and align to multi-club strategy
  • Oversee all in-club community activations including promotions, contests, challenges and more
  • Oversee all club-centered website updates with the Marketing Associate team

Events Strategy + Production (25%)

  • Develop annual member events strategy and oversee the monthly member events calendar to maintain one unified brand experience across all clubs
  • Source and partner with interesting local businesses, organizations, neighborhood groups from the surrounding communities
  • Oversee Marketing Associate event production including ordering, staffing, payroll and budget management
  • Audit all member and community events for quality and brand consistency on a weekly basis
  • Deliver feedback and create event production standards that apply to all clubs
  • Streamline off-site event vendor ordering and payment processes

Community Outreach + Brand Positioning (25%)

  • Connect with nearby buildings, local businesses, local creatives and community-based organizations to build substantial partnerships that engage and excite our membership base, with unique and diverse content offerings
  • Attend monthly community board meetings for each district we reside, and act as company representative in partnership with the General Managers of each club
  • Build and maintain off-site community event partnerships
  • Work with leadership team on planning and execution of all new facility openings including media opportunities, events, partnerships and more
  • Source and manage media and press opportunities for the brand in relation to all community and brand building efforts
  • Support club-level and brand-level activations through social media content in partnership with Senior Brand Manager

Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated/entrepreneurial spirit with an outgoing, diligent, and affable disposition
  • 5-10 years of experience in Marketing, Events and Community Engagement
  • 2 years proven track record of managing people
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written; strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience and interest in building community and forming meaningful relationships
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends for events
  • Ability to travel regularly between our NYC fitness club locations with a base in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, plus creative tools like Canva or Adobe Suite

Estimated Total Compensation: $75,000-$95,000
