Definition:

The Lead Dockhand’s primary responsibility is to provide leadership, direction, and training of the dockhand crew, including, but not limited to marina gas dock, all slips, marina hut dock, yacht club dock, and maintaining water sport equipment and slips. The Lead Dockhand is to be directly involved in maintaining and repairing all marina slips and watercraft equipment and ensure that all docks are well-maintained, safe and that boaters observe all marine rules and regulations. In addition, the boat slip dock lead oversees the maintenance of the slips, cleanliness of the slips, audits of the slips, the boat slip waitlist, slip leases, insurance, and more as needed by the Marina Manager. This position directly oversees the Main Marina slips, the West Bank slips, the Marina and Yacht Club Day Docks, as well as the administrative side to these slips. The Lead Dockhand is to provide Horseshoe Bay Resort members, guests, and associates with necessary program guidance and coaching to ensure a positive attainment of organizational goals.

General Duties:

    • Lead and organize the slip needs of:
      • Maintenance and cleanliness
      • Slip waiting list and slip leases

    • Maintain complete knowledge of:
      • All hotel features/services, hours of operation
      • All watercraft equipment & inventory
      • Water sport activities and programs
      • Marina and watercraft offerings

    • Ensure the smooth daily operations of the Marina docks:
      • Gas dock, slips, and hut dock
      • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all areas
      • Assure proper equipment for marina activities and programs
      • Inspect associate uniforms
      • Report inventory levels of all equipment and placing orders with the assistance of the Marina Manager on needed equipment
      • Assist dock crew with gas dock/valet service/member special requests:
      • Maintain equipment with daily, weekly and monthly inspections and ensure timely repairs if needed.
      • Maintain professional composure in high stress situations to make last-minute changes, especially communicating both verbally and in writing with other departments.
      • Comply with and enforce all Resort rules and policies.

    • Provide staff oversight:
      • Interview and recommend hiring of qualified applicants
      • Train and evaluate the performance of dockhands
      • Create a work environment that encourages staff to perform at their highest abilities

    • Attend all departmental meetings as necessary including Daily Marina Stand up
    • Maintain Horseshoe Bay Resort Marina standards with all members, guests, and associates.
    • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, team members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the property. In addition, attendance at all scheduled skill development sessions is required.
    • Upon employment, all team members are required to fully comply with Horseshoe Bay’s rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the Resort’s facilities.
    • Can be requested to perform other job-related duties assigned by the Marina Manager.

Employment standards:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory MVR.
  • Life Guard Certified, CPR Certified & Current Boaters Safety Certification.
  • General seamanship knowledge that includes boating right-of-way rules, basic navigation and inshore and offshore mooring techniques.
  • Must have solid understanding of marina operations and watercraft.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work one-on-one, both in person and by phone.
  • Pleasant and out-going personality.
  • General computer knowledge
  • Maintain proper associate uniform standards and required footwear according to the Marina
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions common to Texas.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment.
  • Must be able lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
  • Team oriented.
