Our portfolio of custom gear and transmission products includes spur, helical, and worm gear sets with capacities up to 80" in diameter. We also produce bevel, rack & pinion, and planetary gears and specialize in internal shaping. Along with flat and hex shafts, gear features include British Standard Metric, cycloidal, involute, straight, and Fellows 20° stub gear tooth forms.

We operate a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant and use a variety of manufacturing processes to cut and form gears. Our forming capabilities include casting, forging, and molding as well as stamping, punching and powder metal processing. Along with conventional hobbing and gear milling, we use EDM, flame cutting, and various other methods of gear cutting. We produce gears from an extensive selection of metals, plastics, and non-metals, and we offer many options for finishing and heat-treating. All gear manufacturing is accomplished through a combination of our in-house capabilities and a network of trusted outsourcing partners.

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer interacts with customers and Business Development Manager to develop job/part pricing via estimation tools. Develops processes for manufacture including fixturing, tooling and sketches/drawings in the production of gears. Excellent communication and writing skills are necessary due to the customer facing position.

Essential duties and Responsibilities

Estimating/Quoting:

  • Work with Business Development Manager to provide customers with timely responses to quotation requests
  • Work with Production Manager to verify lead-times
  • Develop part pricing including internal and external costs
  • Internal cost includes direct and indirect work completed on parts
  • External cost includes and work completed by outside suppliers
  • Utilize business system (JobBOSS) to generate the customer quotation
  • Analyze data from previous orders to develop quotation

Shop floor support

  • Develop drawings and sketches necessary to complete the job
  • Develop routings during the quotation phase in JobBOSS system
  • Provide guidance on cutter selection
  • Provide guidance on subcontracting activities
  • Offer process improvement opportunities for reduction of cost, improved cycle times and lead times

Additional:

  • Support of other business functions as needed to provide excellent customer service
  • 5s safety events
  • Safety incident evaluation
  • Quality department inspection process development
  • Procurement activities
  • Complies and assists with safety standards and OSHA laws
  • Other activities as directed by General Manager/CEO

Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Associates’s degree in engineering required
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Gearing industry experience preferable
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and ERP system with Job Boss experience is a plus
