LOCATION: Wayne Juvenile Detention Facility - Hamtramck, MI 48211

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of Juvenile Detention Facility Medical Director an individual in this position is responsible for working autonomously to oversee, manage, and administer COVID vaccine program efforts at the Juvenile Detention Facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement COVID immunization services and other routine immunizations at the JDF
  • Lead nursing efforts to improve uptake of COVID immunizations among residents, coordinate consents with guardians, and monitoring of overall program.
  • Ensure proper vaccine administration is performed and procedures are followed
  • Assess clients and properly administer covid vaccine in various field settings.
  • Ensure vaccine data is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling and transportation of vaccines – including temperature monitoring and documentation.
  • Ensure clients experiencing post-vaccination reactions are properly addressed and treated
  • Complete VAERS reports as necessary and submit copy of documentation to Wayne County
  • Maintain a safe and professional environment for clients.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and legible records.
  • Complies with all safety policies and procedures in the work area, including the use of applicable protective equipment when necessary to prevent exposure to potentially infectious agents.
  • Maintain all HIPAA and OSHA standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Items needed to start and/or keep position)

  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university nursing program* AND
  • A current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan AND
  • A valid State of Michigan driver’s license and an acceptable safe driving record AND
  • Maintain Michigan Registered Nurse license throughout employment.
  • Possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) card
  • Bachelor preferred, but RN/LPN will be considered on a case-by-case basis

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Degree in Nursing (Bachelor’s preferred) from an accredited college or university nursing program AND
  • A current license as a Registered Nurse (preferred) in the State of Michigan, are both required.
  • Experience in acute care pediatrics, immunizations, and/or medical surgical nursing and a valid CPR card are preferred.

JOB PREREQUISITES:

  • Proficient in vaccine administration
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills necessary including access to internet / email.
  • The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects. Objects in the weight range of 1 to 15 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; objects in the weight range of 16 to 40 pounds may be lifted and carried occasionally.

INDEPENDENT ACTION: Ability to apply nursing judgment to utilize assessment skills.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to work in a field and office environment.
  • Responsible for practicing safety while in the field
  • Responsible for maintaining records, reports, and meeting deadlines.
  • Responsible for knowing how to operate office machines and IT equipment.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
