Job description

The City of Effingham Public Works Department is seeking candidates to serve as a Maintenance Worker I. This position is assigned to the Street and Sewer Maintenance Division. The position is full-time, with a starting base wage of $22.73/hour. Increases to $26.26/hour after one (1) year of service. Wages incrementally increase as defined by union contract.

The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, April 17th, 2023 @ 3:00 p.m.

Primary Duties:

· Performs a variety of vehicular operational tasks;

· Operates a tractor with power mower, rotary, or side bar attachment;

· Loads and unloads gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, and equipment;

· Flushes and cleans sanitary and storm sewers;

· Performs manhole maintenance;

· Patches holes in the street;

· Cuts curbs and sets forms;

· Cleans and makes minor repairs to lift stations;

· Adds chemicals when needed;

· Repairs and replaces street signs;

· Ensures safety of operations.

· Performs other related duties, as assigned;

Minimum Qualifications:

· High school education or G.E.D.; three to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;

· Possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

· High school education or G.E.D.; six months to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;

· Possess a valid CDL.
