Job description
SUMMARY
Maintain all plant machinery, machine tools and equipment in good operating condition, direct the installation of new machinery and attachments and the re-installation of present equipment in new location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Determine causes of machinery trouble, plan repair methods, time required and, after consultation with foreman, order out replacement parts and materials.
- Tear down and make repairs to large, heavier and more complicated machine tools. Replace worn or broken parts, scarp and fit moving parts for free running; adjust clutches.
- Operate maintenance type machines, i.e. band saw, drill presses, grinders, etc. in conjunction with maintenance repair.
- Reassemble machines and operate on tryouts. Requires knowledge of all operating parts, methods and practices of preventive machine maintenance.
- Coordinate the installation, leveling, and setup of new machinery and equipment; the anchoring and leveling of present machines and equipment in new locations.
- Assist with the installation of steel structures for blowers, tanks, overhead motors and other types of suspended equipment, as directed.
- Perform scheduled servicing of machine transmission systems, belting, power and monorail systems, hoists, etc. as directed.
- Work from layouts, diagrams, sketches, drawings, and general instructions. Use scale, levels, calipers and precision measuring equipment.
- Make electrical repairs to machines, machine tools, powered hand tools and other powered electrical equipment as required.
- Hook up and secure electrical wiring, switches, fixtures, etc. to electrical equipment as necessary in relation to mechanical function of repair.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Shop Trade Knowledge/Education with a High School diploma or equivalent
- Drawing/Specs - the reading and comprehension of drawings/specifications and/or written instructions.
- Measuring Instruments - the correct reading and recording of Measuring instruments that are required in the job
- Shop math - the required mathematical abilities to perform the necessary functions of the job
- Knowledge of theory and Practice - the basic understanding or knowledge of the required theory and practices needed to perform the job.
- Demonstrated Ability - a level of demonstrated ability needed to be able to perform all of the above functions of the job.
