Maintenance Engineering Specialist II
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Typical Responsibilities Include:

- May be required to work overtime or varying hours to include shift work.
- Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
- Work in close proximity to and or in a chemical demilitarization facility.
- Staff Maintenance Engineering Specialist FP (Fire Protection) is responsible for estimating, design engineering and estimating procedures and special engineering services.
- Develops and approves engineering and estimating procedures and provides supervision on special or technical engineering problems and methods. Responsible for estimating major projects as assigned by executive management including coordinating and providing leadership on engineering.
- Design and construction methods, plant design and equipment selection and scheduling.
- Engineering and estimating services provided: engineering review (including mechanical) of the technical content of proposals and in support of operations, engineering supervision and technical support to projects; estimates (including mechanical) for major projects and estimating assistance in support of the operating organizations and quality take-off for major projects and take-off assistance in support of the operating organizations.
- Engineering special services provided: design review and erection assistance for plant facilities and specialized equipment; experienced engineers and leadership to prepare feasibility estimates for program management proposals; experienced engineers work with or lead operation organizations in planning and scheduling functions; contract administration capabilities as required; and research and development to expand organizational skills and growth.
- May provide direction to maintenance superintendents, leads, crafts, and technicians.
- Serve as subject matter expert for trend analysis reporting and recommending preventive and predictive maintenance programs for improving equipment reliability.
- Ensures technical instructions relating to maintenance (corrective, preventive, changeover and configuration change) on facility systems, equipment and components are technically accurate and can be completed in a timely manner such that the safety of the workers, the public or the environment is not compromised.
- Ensures that instrumentation and equipment supporting plant specifications are installed per design.
- Assists in assessment of manpower required for scheduled maintenance activities and assignment work records to the maintenance supervisors and will support the maintenance department by performing a variety of engineering and maintenance related functions.
- Brief department manager on daily basis concerning engineering issues and deadline.
- Assist department manager and supervisors with planning, writing and editing department plans, procedures and other project documents.
- Assist department manager in follow-up of projects reports and information required of the department.
- Provide the department with administrative support, including record keeping and generation/maintenance of forms. Prioritize administrative task based on current plant project activities and status.
- Ensure the performance of emergency repairs to systems, equipment and components are completed in a timely manner. Records the as-found condition as well as the repaired condition, analyzing system characteristics to determine the cause of failure.
- Supervises and assists vendors in performing instrumentation electrical or mechanical maintenance tasks that if beyond the BGCAPP maintenance department’s capability. Provides technical support for this work.
- Specifies maintenance equipment needs to complete electrical and mechanical tasks.
- Performs hazardous waste worker duties in permitted or regulated facilities. Duties may involve one or more of the following: movement, containerization, storage, identification, record keeping, emergency response and/or disposing of hazardous waste.
