The work schedule for this position is:
Full Time (40 hours per week)
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Drives office or cargo vehicles for mail runs within the city, to and from the airport and to Ramstein Air Force Base for DPO mail and pouch pickup when necessary.
Duties
The Mailroom Clerk receives, dispatches, sorts, and distributes mail from multiple sources. These include but are not limited to local and international mail, Diplomatic Post Office (DPO) mail, diplomatic pouch material, the U.S. Military and commercial courier services. The incumbent will act as the shipping agent or facilitator for regional and global partnerships including U.S. Embassy Cairo DPO and unclassified pouch, A/LM Health Expedited Logistics Program (HELP), and the U.S. Military Air Mobility Command (AMC). The incumbent spends a large percentage of the time serving customers at the Mailroom service window. The incumbent is required to maintain a German Class C1 driver's license. The incumbent is supervised by the Mailroom Supervisor/ Assistant Mailroom Supervisor with overall supervision by a designated GSO employee.
Qualifications and Evaluations
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in customer care, office assistance, or clerical work is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of standard office practices. Knowledge of Department of State DPO, Pouch, and host country post regulations and procedures; knowledge of local post offices, airport, and train facilities, as well as a local courier system; good understanding of Mission's organization, function, personnel, and practices of the agencies to which mail service is provided.
Completion of Secondary School or Local Mandatory Schooling and received high school diploma is required.
LANGUAGE:
English level III (Good working knowledge) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
German level II (Working Knowledge) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
This may be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good organizational skills, thoroughness and accuracy in processing documentation, ability to work well in a team environment. Must have user knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
Must maintain a courteous and professional demeanor and possess excellent customer service skills.
Must be able to work independently on a routine basis.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must be willing to work flexible hours, if required.
Must be able to lift 30 kilograms/66 pounds and safely move up to 250 pounds with assistance from coworkers or use of mechanical devices.
Must possess a valid German Class Cl driver's license. (please attach a copy of your drivers license).

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Germany may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
