About GAF – Mount Vernon, Indiana
Mount Vernon, Indiana is located about 20 miles west of Evansville, along the Ohio River. The GAF TPO Facility in Mount Vernon was founded in 2000 and produces TPO roofing systems. Short for thermoplastic polyolefin, TPO is a single-ply roofing membrane that offers excellent performance at a cost-effective price. In the 20+ years that TPO has been in the field, it’s become one of the most popular products used for low-slope roofing. The rapid rise in popularity is the reason we are looking to grow our team!
Key Roles and Responsibilities
The TPO Machine Technician will earn $31.90 per hour to ensure the production of high quality commercial roofing materials through accuracy, timeliness and efficiency of all manufacturing processes. He or she will support the managers and all plant staff to meet Mount Vernon’s operational goals and perform duties as assigned. You will be part of a highly motivated and positive environment, with experienced and safety focused team members.
- Gains job knowledge by reading and understanding materials, such as production schedules, production reports, intranet websites, safety literature, RCN spec books, and training materials.
- Performs preventive maintenance by inspecting, cleaning and adjusting processing equipment as needed.
- Records daily moving vehicles (i.e., fork trucks, overhead cranes) by documenting appropriate checklist.
- Works in teams by attending meetings, such as quality, daily team, daily safety, and training sessions, etc.
- Documents processing settings by completing hourly checklist and SPC charting.
- Ensures optimal settings by performing equipment walk through and making visual inspections. Communicating and deficiencies or potential failures to maintenance and / or Shift lead.
- Generates timely consistent reports such as daily production totals, including scrap generated for the shift.
- Assures all activities are performed safely and any unsafe conditions or observations are reported to the supervisor immediately.
- Troubleshoot and solve production challenges.
- Assist maintenance when needed to repair equipment.
- Produce high quality products on a consistent basis
- Communicate effectively with other operators and managers on a daily basis
Schedule
The schedules are based on business needs. Normally, this is 8 hour shifts, rotating from days to evening to nights every 14 days. Holidays, weekends and other shifts are required.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and a minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience is required, preferably in a continuous process environment.
- Experience in manufacturing concepts, Plastics Extrusion, safety practices and procedures preferred.
- Positive attitude, ability to work in an environment with limited supervision and a willingness to contribute to a continuous improvement environment is critical.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to hold or operate objects, tools, or controls.
- The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.
- The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders / stairs, twist and bend.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
