Position: Licensed Counselor

Reports to: Client Services Director

Employment conditions: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full Time (40hrs/week)

General Description: The Counselor is responsible for individual, group, and emergency crisis intervention counseling to victims of domestic/dating violence and sexual assault and their children. The Counselor will apply clinical techniques and strategies to evaluate, counsel, and guide individuals, and help clients to achieve personal wellness, career development, mental well-being, and healthy relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited university with a Master’s degree in social work or counseling required.
• Certification as a LPC-A, LPC, LCSW
• Experience in social work, case management, counseling or life coaching preferred, with emphasis in field of domestic and/or sexual violence.
• Experience working with adults and children in crisis using client-centered and trauma-informed methods.
• Experience providing individual and group counseling for primary and secondary victims of domestic and/or sexual violence.

Skills/Abilities

• Familiarity with services that are culturally, socially, and ethnically responsive to clients’ backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; fluency in Spanish is helpful.
• Ability to work as a team player.
• Understand and demonstrate appropriate conflict resolution.

Essential Job Functions:

• Commitment to providing client-centered and trauma-informed approach to client care.
• Provide supervision and/or training of Mental Health Intern staff
• Review clinical records to evaluate the necessary level of patient care.
• Promote the development of counseling skills and approaches through evaluations and assessments.
• Responsible for addressing legal and ethical issues within mental health counseling.
• Maintain up-to-date client files and track documentation and record-keeping for organizational and administrative purposes.
• Ensures adequate supervision to ensure clinical efficacy
• Maintains a commitment to professional development
• Provide individual counseling assessment for resident and non-resident clients throughout our 9 county service area.
• Develop and implement clinically sound treatment plans with a commitment to crisis intervention, case management, life coaching, and trauma-informed care.
• Provide ongoing individual crisis counseling relative to personal and social problems for adult clients and their minor children.
• Ensure support group meetings are held once per week for adults and once per week for children.
• Consult with Crisis Center staff on individuals referred to counseling.
• Collect demographic data to maintain grant statistics.
• Provide periodic training to Crisis Center staff regarding working with individuals with mental health issues.
• Evaluate the ongoing progress of each individual involved in counseling.
• Develop working relationships with other mental health professionals and facilities in our area in order to have a referral source for individuals who need more intensive treatment from a psychiatrist.
• May take pictures, produce artwork or other creative works for agency projects, all which becomes property of agency.
• Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
