Position Details
Successful applicant will:
- Hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate and have 3-5 years successful years of teaching
- Have a working knowledge of current instructional, technology, and engagement strategies
- Have a strong desire to work with at-risk and diverse students and their parents
- Willing to work as part of a team to improve student learning, attendance, behavior, social-emotional well-being, and overall student character and performance
- Be open to continuous change and development
- Be an excellent communicator
- Establish positive relationships with students and staff
- Report to and work positively and cooperatively alongside the Principal and Assistant Principal
Behavior Management:
- Support day-to-day operations of the building’s programs
- Establish steps and procedures for handling disengaged students and standards for conduct
- Communicate to parents, teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, and staff to support the students
- Collaborates with the Responsible Thinking Classroom Coordinator to improve student behavior and help facilitate Responsible Thinking Classroom
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the needs of at-risk students
- Facilitate Positive Behavior Support (PBS) system and establish processes and procedures to support PBS and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
- Facilitate restorative justice practices
- Work with students before and after school, during lunch, passing periods, and other activities; instruct students in appropriate behavior
- Collaborate with the Assistant Principal and the Counseling staff to address individual student needs or concerns and provide community and mental health resources for supporting at-risk students
- Monitor academic data and work with teachers, guidance counselors, and students to develop processes and plans to improve overall academic success for supporting at-risk students
- Implement processes and plans to improve and ensure student attendance for at-risk students
- Communicate with parents or guardians to help support their student in their disengagement
- When students fall under truancy, collaborate with staff and/or the court-appointed truancy liaison, the juvenile courts, etc. to support truant juveniles.
