Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. The department has an annual operating budget of over $350M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising a 7 million sq. ft. physical plant across the campus. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

This role is currently designated as hybrid and may provide incumbents with flexibility for partial telecommuting.


JOB PURPOSE:

Under the general direction of the manager/director serve as a technical resource to staff and managers on human resources occupational and non-occupational policies, procedures and practices with occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses in order to reduce absences/lost time and balance the business needs of Stanford University’s Residential & Dining Enterprises.


CORE DUTIES*:

  • Interpret human resources policies, and explain applicable workers’ compensation, disability, leave policies and procedures. Manage appropriate documentation and generate related correspondence.
  • Provide advice on human resources processes, procedures and issues related to Leave & Disability. Resolve issues as appropriate and consult with and make recommendations to manager/director to resolve more complex issues.
  • Provide customer service-based responses by applying information, tools, processes and subject matter expertise to client inquiries/service requests via phone, computer-based chat, email or in-person.
  • Serve as subject matter expert to employees, managers and HR colleagues on Federal and State leave and disability laws, including the American with Disabilities Act Amendment Act (ADA/AA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), Fair Employment Housing Act (FEHA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Pregnancy Disability Leave Act (PDL), and California Workers Compensation Act.
  • In partnership with University Disability & Leave Services and R&DE Payroll, manage HRIS data management activities, including PeopleSoft transactions. Monitor personnel action reporting to ensure data integrity and compliance, and research and resolve pay issues.
  • Develop and maintain a variety of reports and queries. Complete all phases of case management support at an expert level with minimum supervision; ensuring issues are coordinated, logged, tracked, and resolved appropriately.
  • Explain applicable laws, along with applicable Stanford University policy and disability benefits (including VDI, LTD, FTDI, WC compensation benefits)
  • Facilitate leave and disability training for employees, managers and HR staff (as needed)
  • Advise on leave & disability documentation requirements, including how to revise documents to ensure all university and legal requirements are met
  • Support and/or implement leave & disability compliance programs

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Associate degree and four years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.

  • Demonstrated solid planning and organizational skills.

  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

This role is designated as hybrid and will require some onsite presence at the Stanford campus in Palo Alto, CA.

The expected pay range for this position is $85,000k to $90,000k.
