Stevenson School is a PK-12 co-educational, college-preparatory, boarding and day school with enrollment of 770 students on two campuses in beautiful Central Coast California. The Upper Division campus (Grades 9-12) is located in Pebble Beach. The Lower/Middle Campus (Grades PK-8) is in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea. Stevenson School is seeking a Learning Support Coordinator, Lower and Middle Divisions to start July 1, 2023. Reporting to the director of learning support, the learning support coordinator (LSC) will work with students in Grades PK - 8 to identify academic needs and provide short- and long-term support to strengthen skill development and facilitate the acquisition of tools needed to achieve academic success. This is a full-time, 10-month/year faculty position based on Stevenson’s Carmel campus.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and effective educator with demonstrated expertise in supporting a wide range of learning profiles through one-on-one and small group intervention. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a deep understanding of social-emotional wellness within this age group and present a positive, flexible, and helpful attitude

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct screenings and assessments, interpret external evaluations, and partner with classroom teachers to identify appropriate accommodations
  • Develop and implement individual academic support plans for students with identified need
  • Provide student support in one-on-one and small-group settings
  • Conduct regular assessments of student achievement and progress including timely check-ins, providing appropriate communication to teachers, parents, and outside specialists
  • Maintain all related records including documentation of all meetings, noting progress and modifications to plans
  • Make referrals for outside evaluations, as needed
  • Identify specialists to work with students on campus, and oversee their schedules and recommendations
  • Report regularly to academic leadership on individual academic support plans
  • Oversee MAP testing for Grades 3 - 8
  • Support faculty with relevant training
  • Work collaboratively with the health and wellness team, faculty and administrators to develop and deliver a highly effective SEL program
  • Actively participate in the life of the school
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related; master's degree in education, literacy, psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience working with students in an educational setting
  • Experience assessing, implementing, and overseeing accommodation plans
  • Ability to provide direct academic support to students as well as coordinate support with campus constituents and outside specialists
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated problem-solving and dispute resolution ability
  • Strong organizational skills and expertise in planning, implementing and evaluating student service/accommodation programs in an academic environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups including students, faculty, and administrators
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust
  • Highest level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally competent practice, serving the needs of a diverse and inclusive community with diplomacy and tact
  • Competency with Google applications (Gmail, Google sheets and docs)
