Job Title: Lead Simulation and Controls Engineer

Location: Mossville, IL

Duration: Fulltime & Contract

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role, the candidate will be responsible fordevelopingmodel-based control for a range of power electronic converters and motor-drives for electric vehicle applications.The candidate will be involved in the full cycle of controls development and delivery, from modeling and simulation of the electric powertrain to the experimental verification of the control solutions. The candidate must demonstrate a passion for competency development, sophisticated understanding of processes, tools, and technologies, and can effectively lead the development and verification practice specific to the vehicle electrification industry.

Job Description

Modeling,simulation, and analysis of power electronic converters and motor-drives used in heavy electric vehicles.

Develop, validate,evaluate,and recommend practical control algorithms/solutions to achieve required performance.

Experimental validation of the controlsolutions at component- and system levels.

Perform tests and analyze the obtained results, including simulation data and experimentalmeasurements.

Work and collaborate with the hardware and software teams to evaluate the interaction between the hardware, software, and controls.

Create and execute plans to deliver projectexpectations on-time.

Participate and present in the internal and customer meetings.

Qualifications

BSc degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience, or a MSc degree with 8+ years of industry experience.

Strong background in the continuous- and discrete-domaincontrol theory and dynamic systems.

Proficiency in model-based simulation and control design tools such as Simulink, and experience with programming languages such as MATLAB or Python.

Good understanding of the theory of power electronics and motor-controls.

Experience and familiarity with practical issues and constraints involved incontroldesign for thepower converters and motor-drives.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Strong team player and good interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualification

Experience withHiL validation.

Understanding of embedded software and firmware architecture.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive, renewable energies, military, or aerospace industry.

Minimum 1 year of experience in at least one of the following areas:

o Medium/high voltage power electronics with a focus on either bidirectional DC-DC converters, inverters, or battery chargers

o Motor-drives and controls

o Energy storage systems such as batteries and/or fuel-cell.

Experience with multi-level converters topologies, modulation schemes, and controls.

Backgrounds in physics and thermal management.

Good presentation skills.

Strong organization and time management skills.
