Head Start prepares young children to succeed in school and in life beyond school. We deliver services to children and families in areas of early learning, health, and family well-being while engaging parents as partners every step of the way.
Teacher responsibilities include:
- Creating developmentally appropriate lesson plans and daily classroom schedules
- Utilizing evidenced-based and data-driven information to support the individual needs of children and families
- Supporting developmental domains for children's learning and social-emotional growth using the Creative Curriculum continuum
- Implementing instructional and assessment practices utilizing the Teaching Strategies Gold Formative Assessment and other tools
- Maintaining active supervision, health, and safety procedures for all children at all times
- Being independent, self-motivated, friendly, caring, and committed to the social-emotional developmental needs of preschool children
- Partnering with families to develop positive, open, relationship-based two-way communication using home visits, parent/teacher conferences and other communication tools such as the Remind app and Ready Rosie
Requirements:
- Lead teacher education requirements vary, see career ladder below
- NC Driver License
- Pass a physical exam, TB Test, drug screen and a pre-employment and criminal background check
- Maintain a Criminal Background Check Qualification letter from NC DCDEE
- Maintain Early Childhood Education & Development continuing education
- Minimum of one year of early childhood education experience or equivalent
- Bi-Lingual in Spanish is a plus
- Head Start policy requires COVID 19 Vaccination or an approved religious or medical exemption

Teacher III - Has current Birth to Kindergarten Initial Professional License from NC DPI or equivalent - Starting at $23.09
Teacher II - Has a Birth to Kindergarten Bachelor’s degree or equivalent - Starting at $21.78
Teacher I - Has an Early Childhood Education Associate’s degree or equivalent - Starting at $16.27
Teacher Assistant - Has an Early Childhood Education Associate’s degree or equivalent - Starting at $16.27
Teacher Assistant - Has a High School Diploma or GED - Starting at $15.00
