About the Department
In the Development area of Novo Nordisk, we are responsible for managing clinical drug development worldwide from early development phases to product launch and beyond. We provide medical and scientific documentation for clinical submissions and authorities while ensuring that the process lives up to global standards, regulations and business ethics.
The Real-World Science Department is anchored within the AI and Analytics area, which is part of Novo Nordisk Data Science. In Real-World Science we provide insights and evidence based on advanced analysis of Real World Data (RWD) to support decision making and evidence generation throughout product development in Novo Nordisk. By leveraging a blend of scientific, problem-solving, and quantitative skills, we provide superior data insights that empower Novo Nordisk to further develop and deliver life-changing products. We work in multidisciplinary teams with strong collaboration across all areas of the organization and engage in external collaborations to ensure access to cutting edge research and methods.

The Position
The Data Steward will be responsible for identifying relevant data sources (biomedical imaging, omics, digital (including device and wearables), assessing quality, and enabling researchers to use and generate valuable insights from the data. In addition to these responsibilities, the Data Steward will also play an integral role in the overall strategy and foundation of Real World Science / Data Science at Novo Nordisk.
Relationships
The job reports to a department head within Data Science. Several internal relations–will need to interact broadly across Data Science and many other functions across Novo Nordisk globally, as well as Finance, Procurement, Outsourcing, Legal and IT–in both NAO as well as Global/HQ. External relationships will include data vendors and research networks.
No direct nor indirect reports.
Essential Functions
- Leads collaborations across Data Science and the development projects in order to identify data gaps
- Identifies relevant sources of data (biomedical imaging, omics, digital (including device and wearables, etc) that can close these data gaps
- Identifies relevant data opportunities and prepares the needed business case
- Creates and maintains a relevant internal stakeholder network as well as an external vendor network
- Identifies and assesses data vendors
- Collaborates with legal, finance, procurement, data privacy and IT in order to negotiate data contracts and to bring the data in-house
- Identifies relevant data opportunities and prepares the needed business case
- Creates and maintains a relevant internal stakeholder network as well as an external vendor network
- Presents ideas & data to team, site, & global project teams
- Maintains critical process documentation in support of processes
- Ensures documentation is in accordance with requirements and addresses discrepancies as required
Physical Requirements
Approximately 10% overnight travel (including international travel).
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in related fields. At least 5years relevant experience required; or PhD from an accredited academic institution or an equivalency document and 3 years of relevant experience
- Preferred: PhD from an accredited academic institution or an equivalency document and 6 years of relevant experience
- Relevant experience includes:
- Understanding of contracting data privacy, data sourcing/scouting, data science.
- Working knowledge of pharmaceutical product development
- General knowledge of data science, commercially available data
- knowledge of clinical data, such as omics, biomedical images, data generated via wearables, data generated via NLP from text etc.
- Thorough understanding of data quality assessment
- Experience can be a combination of paid and academic experience
- Preferred:
- 6 years of relevant work experience working with Clinical data, data partnerships, data vendors, commercially available data, contracting, data privacy, data sourcing/scouting, and/or data science.
