JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Laboratory Technician I

Exemption Status: Non Exempt

Department: Anatomical Pathology/Molecular

Reports To: Lab Manager

This role is responsible for performing laboratory functions within the Histology department to include Data Entry of patient information, Grossing of tissue biopsies, Processing of tissue samples, Embedding paraffin blocks, Staining slides and several additional functions within the department.

Essential Duties: ❏ Works under supervision of manager, with guidance from the Lead, and follows standard procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

❏ Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to policies and procedures.

❏ Ensures duties and tasks are standardized where possible.

❏ Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshoot minor equipment failures. Document remedial actions such as repairs or reported tests.

❏ Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities.

❏ Ensure all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met.

❏ Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA, CAP and EmeritusDX regulations.

❏ Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.

❏ Resolves routine questions and problems, refers more complex issues to higher levels.
❏ Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education/Experience:
❏ Bachelor's degree in biological or other sciences
