Position: Junior Software Engineer (Cloud DevOps Engineer)
Contract: Department Homeland Security - Vulnerability Management - Attack Surface Management Project (ASM)

Overview:

IVA’AL Solutions, LLC is seeking an experienced Junior Software Engineer (Cloud DevOps Engineer) to provide services on a contract supporting The Department of Homeland Security – Vulnerability Management – Attack Surface Management Project.
The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving and communications skills as well as previous work history supporting the development of detailed plans for the conduct or support of the applicable range of cyber operations through collaboration with other planners, operators and/or analysts.
CISA expects the Contractor to provide a cross-functional Agile team to deliver functioning code as provided in this requirements document. The team must be comfortable delivering value iteratively and able to pivot quickly based on a continuous learning environment.
The Contractor team will use prototypes and working software as tools to test hypotheses and validate assumptions. The team should be expected to deliver working software early in the post-award period, and to iteratively improve the software through ongoing development sprints (typically in 2-week intervals).
Crossfeed is written in TypeScript and uses the React web framework and NodeJS as the backend. The system is deployed in CISA’s AWS environment using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), with the frontend hosted via AWS CloudFront/S3 and the backend a combination of Lambda services delivering the API and ECS containers running scans. The architecture and tech stack are further documented on Crossfeed’s developer site. The team should be familiar with 12 Factor Application principles.
The Mid-Level Software Engineer (Cloud DevOps Engineer) must have experience architecting and implementing cloud infrastructure, including via Infrastructure as Code, as well as participating in technical planning and development to enable successful development, deployment, and operations.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Implement scalable, resilient, and secure solutions in the cloud, especially in AWS.
  • Participate in automation initiatives to streamline processes, improve efficiencies and reduce hosting cost
  • Work closely with Product Owner and development teams for continuous improvement
  • Enhance and drive automation and "Infrastructure as Code" delivery, including writing
  • Maintain and develop Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Deliver cloud projects in an Agile environment
  • Manage containers and container orchestration (AWS ECS Fargate)
  • Participate in technical architecture discussions with CISA
  • Participate in research and development to deliver cloud-native solutions
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex software and infrastructure issues, and develop tools/systems for task automation
  • BAU Support as needed for critical and escalated issue
  • Responsible for managing and upgrading DevOps toolsets, including Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (via GitHub actions)
Qualifications:
  • Clearance: Public Trust
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Education: Bachelor’s from an accredited academic institution in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4-7 years’ experience providing similar services similar projects.
  • Preferred: Experience working in cybersecurity environments supporting the role of a federal sector-specific agency/sector risk management agency (e.g., Department of Energy, Department of the Treasury, Department of Homeland Security); experience working in a cybersecurity environment supporting a private sector critical infrastructure entity.
