Idaho National Laboratory's Calibration Services team is hiring an Instrumentation and Calibration Technician to work out of our Central Facilities Area (CFA) located approximately one hour from Idaho Falls. This position will work a 4x10 schedule, with every Friday off!
Responsibilities include:
- Provide calibration and repair services on a wide range of measuring and test equipment (M&TE) to national and international standards and requirements. Interface and collaborate with internal and external customers, vendors, manufactures, and metrology professionals to deliver successful outcomes in service, quality, performance, and safety.
- Compare measuring and test equipment with appropriate standards, and perform any necessary adjustments, to ensure instruments meet specified tolerances. Specialize in assigned parameters of calibration with full qualification on the appropriate workstations. Some calibrations may be performed in the field.
- Cross-train into other parameters and perform calibrations to meet customers’ needs and to provide back-up capability for workstations. Provide training to other technicians, in primary areas of responsibility, to provide the skills necessary for them to successfully complete qualification requirements.
- Develop calibration work instructions for M&TE and ensure existing work instructions meet S&CL requirements; all calibration work instructions must be adequate to perform the work safely and provide sufficient detail to ensure the quality of results.
- Troubleshoot and isolate malfunctions, perform adjustments or repair, and recalibrate as required. Consult with manufacturers as necessary to resolve questions and restore instrument operation.
- Assist metrology engineers in evaluation of the performance of laboratory standards and take appropriate actions to sustain performance. Actively participate in developing solutions to measurement problems including issues in the field.
- Collaborate with customers to answer questions and resolve calibration issues; communicate with customers in a courteous and professional manner and strive to meet their needs within the capabilities of the S&CL. Investigate availability of outside suppliers for calibration of instrumentation that the S&CL does not have the capability to calibrate.
- Work with manufacturers, vendors, and metrology professionals to resolve equipment issues, calibration questions, and ensure the quality of measurement processes.
- Perform surveillances of S&CL operations, as requested by management, to assess the performance of the S&CL in meeting technical and quality requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
Hight School Diploma or equivalent and at least 2-6+ years of relevant experience.
Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, the following: experience in maintenance and repair of instrumentation, experience reading and understanding manufacturer’s specifications on equipment, excellent oral and written skills, and proficiency with computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Requirements:
- AAS degree in applicable field is strongly preferred

- Salary Grade: TS0300 - 160 ($49,500 - $79,188) OR TS0400 180 - ($62,640 - $100,224)
