Job description
The Community Engagement Program will bring people together across economic and cultural backgrounds to build beloved community by sharing resources, enjoying live entertainment, and transforming systemic barriers. After 6 months of listening to our neighbors and local organizations on how they would like to see Independence Boulevard Christian Chruch's (IBCC) large space used for the sake of the community, we have developed a few specific goals. Fruition KC on Monday evenings already provides monthly concerts, community organizing, public leader engagement, and community-building conversations. One goal of this project is to assess and improve this program. Neighbors also hope to have a Farmers’/Vendors’/Artists’ Market that can be both indoors and outdoors, year-round. This goal needs to be assessed for viability and then optimized for the realistic interest in our area. With the help of the Community Engagement Coordinator, we hope to have something running within 6 to 12 months. Sharing skills and learning from one another can be a powerful way people appreciate one another’s mutual dignity. In response to some neighbors sharing an interest in teaching art, cooking, martial arts, dance, nonviolent communication, and other skills, we would like to host some classes of interest that benefit both the teacher and participants. Our Community Engagement Coordinator will recruit teachers, promote classes, and begin this skill-share opportunity in the Historic Northeast. When diverse people come together for common interests, we often discover and deepen our connection with one another. We believe the community would intersect through sharing various performing arts events. We also believe the space serves well for Social Justice Town Halls and Film Screenings where people can partner on solutions to issues impacting all of us now. The Community Engagement Program will work to schedule and promote such intersectional events.
Member Duties : 1. Connect with neighborhood leaders & residents, local artists & vendors, local refugee resettlement organizations, local musicians, unhoused and low-income neighbors, and some social justice leaders. 2. Assess interest in the current and projected programs, including preferences for times and frequency. 3. Design/implement optimal Farmers’/Vendors’/Artists’ Market schedule, connections, leadership team, and path forward. Begin the plan to the point of at least starting the first event. 4. Begin scheduling large concerts and other performing arts events. 5. Begin scheduling and planning Social Justice Town Halls in coordination with Sr. Pastor. 6. Publicize effectively for all events/activities in partnership with the Office Administrator 7. Build plans for all program events/courses to have ongoing leadership and sustainability.
